FMC’s Safe Church Ministry reflects our congregation’s commitment to the safety and responding to the prevalence of physical, emotional, verbal and sexual abuse in our society. First Mennonite Church seeks to create a faithful response through the implementation of Safe Sanctuary. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all who enter our doors.
This page first includes resources for responding to harm. And the bottom half of the page is a training for those working with children or leading ministry.
Resources
The Incident Report form is for Pastors and the Response Team to fill out when receiving a reported incident of harm. Click on the Incident Report link below to download or fill out online.
The Witness Report form is the general form for anyone to fill out that has witnessed harm or suspicious behavior. Click on the Witness Report link below to download or fill out online.

Training
Welcome to the Safe Church Online Training. Every year FMC staff, those working with children, or those leading a ministry are required to complete the training and fill out the Safe Sanctuary Memorandum of Understanding and Intent.
Please follow the five steps below to complete the training:

Please start your training by watching this video from the FMC Safe Church information meeting on June 1, 2025.
Step 2. Please review the Safe Sanctuary Policy
Step 3. Read “When a child discloses, how to respond”

Step 4. Memorandum of Understanding and Intent
Please read and sign the Safe Sanctuary Memorandum of Understanding and Intent form below.
Step 5. Background check
If you are working with Children, you are required to have a background check every 5 years. You are welcome to use your background checks from other jobs (teaching, social work, etc…) and turn it into the office, but they must be done within the last 5 years. If you do not have one from work, please fill out the background check form and turn it in to Trusty Schumacher. (Link to Form). If you do not know the last time you had a background check, consult the FMC Office.
